Focus on Millet – #IYM2023#IYM2023
The 13th edition of the festival took place from September 16 to October 31, 2023. It opened with an international event dedicated to Slovenia and to intercultural dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean, hosted in the splendid setting of Villa Falconieri (Frascati) and organized in collaboration with the Accademia Vivarium Novum.
The festival received the patronage of the European Parliament, MASAF, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Italy, and was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic for the sixth time.
Cerealia 2023 featured over 30 events in Rome and 9 Italian regions (Lazio, Sicily, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Sardinia, Campania, Piedmont, Puglia, Sicily), highlighting the participatory nature of the festival, which promotes cultural and scientific outreach, reconnecting territories and communities, rediscovering traditions rooted in respect for the land and its fruits, and valuing Italy’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
The program included guided tours, nature excursions, tastings of local and sustainable products, meetings and conferences, workshops, and concerts.
A rich calendar of initiatives, planned from June in anticipation of the festival, was promoted by CREA for Cerealia in several Italian cities and formed a significant part of this edition’s program.
Several events focused on scientific and cultural deepening, including an international and multidisciplinary conference held in Rome on October 13, on the theme of “villages and inner areas,” promoted by INSOR, FIDAF, in collaboration with Confagricoltura and other partners.
In celebration of FAO’s International Year of Millet (#IYM2023), a dedicated meeting took place in Rome on September 27, organized in collaboration with FOSAN and featuring FAO experts.
