Cerealia 2014 – The Cereal Festival

The 4th edition of Cerealia was promoted by M.Th.I., ArcheoClub d’Italia – Rome branch, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Italy, the National Association of Cypriots in Italy (NIMA), and the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Cyprus.
The 2014 edition was dedicated to the Republic of Cyprus, which celebrated 10 years of European Union membership that year. The dedication highlighted the island’s historical role as a meeting point for peoples from different horizons. For over fourteen millennia, Cyprus has been a land where East and West have clashed but also often integrated harmoniously. The island developed its civilization as an integral part of the Mediterranean world, leveraging its natural resources for its own enrichment and that of neighboring populations.
Cyprus has been called the “Island of Aphrodite” (to whom Cerealia paid a special tribute) because its territory hosted, for millennia before the arrival of the Greeks, the worship of a major Mediterranean deity, the “Mother Earth,” whose characteristics were similar to those of the Hellenic goddess of love.
The festival took place in Rome, Lazio, Altino (Venice), and Puglia.
