Jelsi Wheat Festival 2025

Jelsi Wheat Festival (CB), Celebrating Tradition and Peasant History

One of the Oldest Festivals in Italy

Every year, the festival draws tourists, people connected to the world of wheat and the arts, experts, curious visitors, and many Jelsi natives living abroad to Jelsi, a town in the Sannio Apennines, just a few kilometers from Campobasso. The most important moment is July 26, with the processional parade of wagons and carts decorated with wheat and offered to Saint Anne, an event that is renewed every year, enriched with new elements. The entire Jelsi community participates in the preparations, turning the town into an “open-air workshop” in the months leading up to the festival, with harvesting, wheat braiding, and preparation of devotional offerings. The festival is linked to the Community Museum of the Wheat Festival, largely housed in the former Franciscan Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which can be visited year-round. The museum is also spread throughout the municipal territory, collecting the works created each year by volunteers dedicated to preserving this tradition.

Organized by Associazione Comitato Sant’Anna APS. Free event.
