MARGINALIA 2026
Four days in Miranda to tell stories and inhabit Italy's inland areas
The program features conference, exhibitions, book presentations, art, music, and activities for all ages. Piero Castrataro will receive the Marginalia 2026 Award. This year, the festival is partnering with the Cerealia festival
Marginalia was created with the desire to discuss inland areas without defining them solely by depopulation, isolation, and hardship. The festival offers four days dedicated to the people who live in, study, govern, and tell the stories of these places, and who strive daily to envision their future.
Thursday, August 20, marks the official opening with the inauguration of a participatory photography exhibition created using images from the Miranda community. At 9:00 pm, the conference "Culture as Care: Cultural Welfare for the Future of Inland Areas" will bring together administrators and cultural professionals to discuss the role that culture, participation, and community relationships can play in these vulnerable territories. During the evening Piero Castrataro, the Mayor of Isernia, will receive the Marginalia Award 2026.
Marginalia returns this year with a simple concept: inland areas are not merely places to be saved or described from afar. They are places to be inhabited and traversed—places that must be empowered to secure a future.
