Ceres and the Land of Grain: Symbols of Bread

2nd International Conference, Leonforte (Sicily)

From May 29th to 31st, Leonforte will host the 2nd International Conference "Ceres and the Land of Wheat: Symbols of Bread," an event dedicated to the culture of wheat, bread, and ancient Mediterranean grain-growing traditions.

The event, organized by the cultural associations "Pietas" of Rome and "Tesori di Sicilia" of Leonforte, will take place at Villa Bonsignore, the Cuddura Museum, and the "E. Barbera" Creativity Gallery. Scholars and speakers from various European and non-European countries will participate in meetings, workshops, tastings, guided tours, and poetry and music performances. Curated by Basilio Varveri, the conference will feature a traditional repertoire and original pieces of his own compositions, inspired by Greek, Latin, Italian, and Sicilian classics.

The conference will focus on the symbolic and identity-building value of bread, encompassing history, anthropology, biodiversity, and Sicilian folk traditions. Three days designed to enhance Leonforte's cultural heritage and promote the connection between territory, memory, and community.
